The Einstein-Montefiore Presidential Lecture on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 4:30 p.m., in Robbins Auditorium.

After a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus, we are happy to invite you to attend this year’s Einstein-Montefiore Presidential Lecture on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 4:30 p.m., in Robbins Auditorium.

The lecture, which was established in 2017, hosts presentations by two faculty members who together represent outstanding examples of the full spectrum of research at Einstein and Montefiore, highlighting its excellence.
This year’s lecturers will be Ulrich “Uli” Steidl, M.D., Ph.D., and Amit Verma, M.B.B.S. Over the past decade, these longtime colleagues have coauthored several dozen peer-reviewed papers published in high-quality journals, adding immensely to the understanding of two closely intertwined diseases: myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

The duo was among the first researchers to demonstrate that MDS, a common precursor of AML, arises from wayward bone-marrow stem cells, raising hopes for treating or preventing both diseases. An article, “Collaborating to Cure Cancers” in the Summer/Fall 2019 issue of Einstein magazine, details their complementary skills and collaborative efforts.

Seeds for Collaboration

“Seeds for Collaboration” is a faculty mixer held monthly during the academic year. The goal is to stimulate discourse that will ultimately result in inter-institutional collaborations, discoveries, publications and grant applications. At each event faculty mingle for half an hour and then three 5 minutes talks are presented – one slide per speaker and discussion amongst all after the three speakers have finished. All faculty are invited by email and announcements are posted on the academic calendar, and on posters and in the elevators. “Seeds” provides basic science, translational, and clinical faculty alike an opportunity to share their research interests and directions and to attract collaborators in an informal, social environment.    seeds 5-19-22

Pathways to Success at the Einstein Cores

"Pathways to Success at the Einstein Cores" is a seminar series aimed highlighting the activities of the Einstein Cores, and how they have contributed to research success of investigators.  The Cores Scientific and Operations Director will provide an overview of the services of the Core followed by presentation by investigators describing how the Cores contributed to their research.
