Founded in 1918, Christian Medical College, Vellore is a tertiary care center and one of the premiere medical and biomedical research institutions in India, with research capacities and training experience for extensive epidemiologic, basic science, and translational work. Researchers receive support from major national and international sources, such as the NIH, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the European Commission's Framework Programme.

Medical Education is also of great importance at CMC. In addition to MBBS (basic medical) training, more than 600 health professionals are enrolled in various postgraduate degree programmes, including Masters, PhD, and medical fellowship courses, and 1200 trainees are enrolled in our nursing education program. In addition to its excellent staff to provide the foundation for the program, CMS has the laboratory, clinic, classroom and videoconferencing capacity necessary to practice the concepts learned in didactic coursework.

East African Diabetes Study Group (EADSG)

The East African Diabetes Study Group (EADSG) was launched in 2011 to provide educational programs and conduct research to further expand our knowledge of this debilitating illness and its treatment. This organization has now hosted six international Congresses and Scientific Sessions. The most recent Congress, held in Tanzania in April 2023, was attended by representatives of 26 countries.

The Einstein-Mt. Sinai Regional Diabetes Research Center (DRC) provides strong leadership for creative basic and translational research related to the causes and treatment of diabetes and its complications. With a collaborative state-of-the-art infrastructure and multiple tools and approaches to facilitate diabetes prevention and control, the DRC supports broad interplay among research, training, clinical and community-based activities.

DRC investigations primarily target the minority and other underserved populations prevalent among the 1.4 million residents of the Bronx, 1 million residents of adjacent Westchester county and 6.9 million residents of the other boroughs comprising New York City.

The School of Medicine is one of the four Schools that constitute Makerere University College of Health Sciences. The School started as Faculty of Medicine in 1924 and was transformed to the School of Medicine in 2009 with 13 academic departments. The teaching staff are both from Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) and the Ministry of Health (MoH). The school's campus is located on Mulago Hill, Northeast of Kampala. Mulago and Butabika National Referral hospitals are the major teaching hospitals.
