Making Important Connections — The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke has awarded a four-year $2.3 million grant to Dr. Robert Singer. The grant funds Dr. Singer’s ongoing research on actin, a structural protein considered a key player in making memories. He will study the mechanisms by which actin mRNA localizes and moves within neurons. Dr. Singer is professor and chair of anatomy & structural biology, as well as professor of neuroscience and of cell biology. He is also co-director of both the Gruss-Lipper Biophotonics Center and the Integrated Imaging Program, and holds the Harold and Muriel Block Chair in Anatomy and Structural Biology.
