Dr. Michal Melamed

Addressing Chronic Kidney Disease  The National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded Dr. Michal Melamed nearly $1 million over two years for her research on chronic kidney disease (CKD) care. CKD affects disproportionate numbers of people in the black and Hispanic communities, and controlling blood pressure can help keep the disease from worsening. Dr. Melamed and colleagues are studying whether health outcomes of Bronx-based CKD patients can be improved if patients attend monthly meetings at CKD clinics where they will be educated and empowered to control their blood pressure. Dr. Melamed is associate professor of medicine and of epidemiology & population health
