Training in HIV/AIDS Pathogenesis—The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease has awarded Vinayaka Prasad, Ph.D.,a five-year, $1.3 million renewal grant, to support a program that he leads for training young investigators in basic and translational HIV/AIDS research.  Now in its 21st year, this training grant will continue to fund efforts by Einstein investigators to recruit, train and mentor predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees in methods and approaches for investigating the pathogenesis of HIV/AIDS.  The program consists of four key areas of focus:   HIV prevention and eradication; drug abuse, neurocognitive dysfunction and aging; vaccines; and HIV-TB co-infection. Members of the training program include HIV/AIDS researchers at Einstein and Montefiore, and a network of clinical collaborators, including the Bronx chapter of the Women's Inter-agency HIV Study and Einstein’s Global Health Center. Dr. Prasad is professor of microbiology & immunology.
