Healthy Numbers — On November 15, 2011, more than 400 people attended the first-ever “Know Your Numbers” Health Fair, sponsored by Einstein, Montefiore and 1199 Service Employees' International Union.  Attendees received screenings for blood pressure, body mass index and blood glucose levels, were able to schedule mammography and could get information on nutrition and a broad range of health issues including asthma, COPD and colon cancer. Information on clinical trials, ways to improve health and a free Zumba class also were offered. The event also served to introduce HealthyYU, a wellness program that will be initiated university–wide during the coming year.

Continued Growth  The BODY (Bronx, Obesity, Diabetes and You) Club applied for and received a $5,000 grant from the AMA Foundation for its community garden project. The money will help the student-run group create a new community garden on grounds provided by Einstein and Weiler Hospital. The BODY Community Garden will offer the local community a place to plant and cultivate vegetables and herbs, enjoy a picnic, wander through a butterfly garden or along walking paths, or meditate and do exercises.

Get Graphics  The Einstein community can take advantage of UpToDate’s New Graphics Search, which allows members to obtain thousands of authoritative graphics, including pictures, tables, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, algorithms and movies.  Searches can be manipulated to show only graphics in the results, which can be prioritized under adult, pediatric or patient topics. Graphics also can be printed, e-mailed or exported. Try the new search capabilities.

Coming Soon The library’s subscription to PsycTHERAPY and PsycTESTS from the American Psychological Association begins in January 2012. PsycTHERAPY is the only subscription database of therapy demonstration videos (more than 300 total) specifically developed to allow viewers to observe how therapists spontaneously employ different approaches and techniques in practice. PsycTESTS serves as a repository for the full text of psychological tests and measures, including achievement and aptitude tests, intelligence tests, tests of cognitive functioning, occupational tests and personality tests, as well as a rich source of structured information about the tests.

MVR: Most Valuable Resource The D. Samuel Gottesman Library staff can help maximize your search skills by offering training classes in a variety of databases. You will learn basic and advanced techniques for searching the scientific literature in PubMed, OvidSP Medline and Web of Science and how to create bibliographies, organize references and cite them in a manuscript using various bibliographic management software programs. Classes are open to faculty, postdocs, residents, staff and students and can be tailored to specific needs.

Classes are taught by a reference librarian in the library's Conference Room 119N, Forchheimer building.

Can't make it to a class? Try a scheduled webinar or call to request one: WEBINARS — LEARN SOMETHING NEW WITHOUT HAVING TO LEAVE YOUR OFFICE, LAB OR HOME!
