Dr. Shlomo Shinnar

Seizing the Moment  Dr. Shlomo Shinnar, professor of neurology, of pediatrics and of epidemiology & population health, has received a renewal grant totaling $6.1 million over four years from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) for his study “The Consequences of Prolonged Febrile Seizures in Childhood (FEBSTAT).” The FEBSTAT study is a unique effort that began nearly 10 years ago with the aim of studying how epilepsy develops following an prolonged febrile seizure. Led by Dr. Shinnar, study findings thus far suggest that brain imaging and activity recording may help identify children at risk for developing temporal lobe epilepsy and memory impairment. The renewal received the prestigious Javits Award for Neuroscience.
