Weiler Medical Service Announces Leadership Transition

Matthew Berger, MD
After 25 years as the Associate Director, then Director of the Weiler Medical Service, Dr. Matthew Berger will step down from the position as of July 1, 2012. Dr. Berger will continue to work in Montefiore’s information technology department to enable the medical center's clinical information systems to best support its missions, and to teach in both inpatient and outpatient settings for the Department of Medicine.

"It has been one of the greatest joys of my professional career to have worked with our clinicians and house staff to provide our patients with the best possible care and support our teaching mission," said Dr. Berger.

"During his tenure, Dr. Berger provided exceptional leadership and was able to achieve his vision of an efficient, modern medical service that provided outstanding care to patients, top notch education to residents and students, and a working environment where we were supported and encouraged to excel," said Dr. William Southern, Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine.

"I would like to thank Matt for his many years of dedicated service in an often-challenging role, and I am pleased that our training program, students, and patients will continue to benefit from his many talents in teaching and patient care," said Dr. Victor Schuster, Chairman of the Department of Medicine
