Montefiore Einstein Consultative Cardiology Overview

The Albert Einstein Division of Cardiology’s consultative cardiology team conducts cardiac testing and interprets test results to formulate treatment strategies for patients with a range of heart diseases. Einstein’s full-time consultative cardiology faculty members serve as the consultative cardiology team at Montefiore Einstein Heart Center, seeing over 2,500 patients each year.

Conditions treated include:

  • Ischemic Heart Disease

Diagnostic test is generally an exercise- or medication-induced cardiac stress test. Treatment methods include medication and cardiac intervention (catheterization, angioplasty, and stenting).
  • Congestive Heart Failure (systolic or diastolic dysfunction)

Diagnostic tests may include echocardiogram and cardiac catheterization. Treatment for congestive heart failure is usually managed conservatively, through medication and careful observation and monitoring.
  • Valvular Heart Disease (heart valve disease)

Diagnostic tests may include echocardiogram and cardiac catheterization. Treatment methods include observation and monitoring, medication, balloon angioplasty, and heart bypass surgery.
  • Cardiac Arrhythmias

Diagnostic tests include Holter monitors, loop records, and electrophysiology (EP) studies. Treatment methods may include pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and ablation.
  • Adult Congenital Heart Defects

Diagnostic tests include echocardiogram and cardiac catheterization. Treatment depends on the underlying causes.
  • Heart Disease During Pregnancy

Montefiore Einstein’s consultative cardiology team offers expertise in treating women pregnant with congenital heart defects.
  • Hypertension

The Consultative Cardiology Service offers immediate consultations for patients with heart disease and emergency room patients.
