BRONX, NY - March 15, 2015 - The Department of Medicine mourns the loss of Dr. V.S. Srinivas, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine (Cardiology). Dr. Srinivas, who went by his last name, died Wednesday, March 11, following a protracted illness.

"Dr. Srinivas was not only a dear member of our family, but a true leader and great human being," said Dr. Mario Garcia, Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) and of Radiology, Pauline Levitt Chair in Medicine, Chief of the Division of Cardiology, and Co-Director of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care.

Dr. James Scheuer, Distinguished Professor Emeritus (Cardiology) and University Chairman Emeritus, offered the following comments:

"We are all distressed by the loss of Srinivas at such a young age, and while he still had so much to contribute.

He was a wonderful cardiologist, and an important model as a professional to medical students, residents, and fellows. He trained a group of interventionalists exceptionally well, accomplished important research, and portrayed an exemplary demeanor during difficult times.

In the last few years, I enjoyed getting to know Srinivas better.  He taught me a lot about the kind of research in which he was expert, and I a novice.  He was wonderful to work with.

I shall miss him personally, but he is a great loss to our institution and to our profession."

Dr. Srinivas was an accomplished physician scientist with research interests including the effect of physician volume on the relationship between hospital volume and mortality during primary angioplasty, bypass angioplasty revascularization in Type 2 Diabetes, the impact of drug-eluting stents among insulin-treated diabetic patients, and the relationship between forgiveness and psychological and physiological indices in cardiac patients.
