Graduate Students Dulguun Amgalan and Prameladevi Chinnasamy Awarded AHA Predoctoral Fellowships

June 7, 2015 - BRONX, NY - The Montefiore Einstein Division of Cardiology is pleased to announce that graduate students Dulguun Amgalan and Prameladevi Chinnasamy have been awarded American Heart Association (AHA) Predoctoral Fellowships.

The Predoctoral Fellowships help students initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research by providing research assistance and training to support studies related to cardiovascular function, disease, and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering or biotechnology, and public health problems.

Ms. Amgalan, a third-year student in the PhD Program, is mentored by Dr. Richard Kitsis in the study entitled "BAX as a small molecule therapeutic target for myocardial infarction" in support of developing a novel drug to limit heart damage during myocardial infarction (heart attack). Dr. Kitsis and co-investigator Dr. Evripidis Gavathiotis also received the three-year AHA Collaborative Sciences Award to support this project.

Ms. Chinnasamy, a fourth-year student working in the laboratory of Dr. Nicholas Sibinga, will be supported for her work in the study entitled "Allograft Inflammatory Factor-1 in Atherothrombotic Vascular Disease".

The awards will support Ms. Amgalan and Ms. Chinnasamy in their work through June 2017.
