V. S. Srinivas (Cardiology) has been awarded the Abbott Fund Fellowship Grant for Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Medicine. The Abbott Fund Fellowship grant program advances the practice of cardiovascular medicine and patient care and supports medical institutions that offer ACGME-accredited fellowships in interventional medicine.
The one-year Montefiore Einstein Cardiology Fellowship Program provides clinical and research training for two academic cardiovascular subspecialists, including basic scientists, clinical investigators, and highly skilled cardiovascular consultants and educators. The fellowship’s interventional cardiology rotation offers three levels of training—from invasive activity confined to coronary care unit procedures to specialized diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures.
The grant money will be used to develop an annual visiting professor series that will invite national and international interventional cardiology thought leaders to interact with Einstein’s interventional cardiology and general cardiology fellows. It will also seed fellows’ research projects, and may be used to develop intranet-based educational content, annual in-service exams and virtual “case of the month” educational materials for invasive cardiology faculty and fellows.
Dr. Srinivas, director of the interventional cardiology rotation, conducts extensive clinical research activity, with recent publications based on his work in the following areas:
- Health Services Research: Effect of physician volume on the relationship between hospital volume and mortality during primary angioplasty
- Clinical Trials and Registries: Bypass angioplasty revascularization in Type 2 Diabetes; Impact of drug-eluting stents among insulin-treated diabetic patients
- Observational Studies: Relationship between forgiveness and psychological and physiological indices in cardiac patients
