Time, United Press International (UPI), Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and Asian News International (ANI) feature research by Dominick Purpura, M.D. and Mark Mehler, M.D. regarding their theory that the brains of people with autism are structurally normal but dysregulated, meaning symptoms of the disorder might be reversible. This new theory, published in the journal Brain Research Reviews, states that autism is a disorder caused by impaired regulation of the locus coeruleus. Dr. Mehler is chairman of neurology and director of the Institute for Brain Disorders and Neural Regeneration at Einstein. Dr. Purpura is dean emeritus and distinguished professor of neuroscience at Einstein.
