B.S. in Nursing University of Athens, Greece

My interest in microbiology and infectious diseases started during my undergraduate studies in Nursing at the University of Athens, Greece. After graduation I worked for the Greek CDC, conducting syndromic surveillance during the Athens 2004 Olympic games, which led to my decision to get a Master of Science in Clinical Nursing, focusing on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Infection Control at the University of Athens, Greece. My thesis, under the supervision of Dr. George Saroglou, regarded the historical course, legislature and epidemiological surveillance of malaria chemoprophylaxis in Greece.

I continued my studies by attending the M.P.H. program in Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at Yale School of Public Health, working in the laboratory of Dr. Adalgisa Caccone. My thesis project “Estimation of the Human Blood Index in malaria mosquito vectors in Equatorial Guinea after indoor antivector interventions”, was published in AJTMH. Currently I am a PhD student in the laboratory of Dr. Johanna Daily and my thesis project is exploring the role of phospholipases A2 in malaria infection.
