Special Session: Migrant Medicine: Its Time Has Come
Date: Monday, December 12, 2022
Time: 5:00 PM To 6:30 PM
Location: Via Zoom
Event Description:
Caring for immigrants, migrants, and refugees has become a somewhat universal aspect of practicing modern medicine. There are five core values of practicing migrant medicine, which include health equity, respect, trust, cultural humility, and compassion. These principles can be used as guideposts to provide high-quality, patient-centered care for im/migrants. This session aims to expand upon these values to enhance the knowledge and practices of providers in order to address im/migrant health and help close the healthcare equity gap as it pertains to im/migrant patients.
Dr. Sarah Kimball will contribute her expertise in immigration-informed medicine to expand upon the steps healthcare providers and clinicians can take to provide outstanding care that is culturally appropriate while addressing barriers faced by im/migrant patients.
