Dr. Chanelle Diaz is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. She is currently the HIV clinical coordinator at the Comprehensive Health Care Clinic (CHCC) and the Clinical PrEP Specialist for the Bronx Community Healthcare Network Primary Care HIV Prevention grant. She graduated from the Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine program in 2019. During residency, she was selected as a National Physicians Alliance Copello Health Advocacy Fellow. She implemented a community-based immigration detention health track for residents to develop skills in supporting individuals with serious medical conditions in immigration jails by documenting medical neglect and advocating for their release in partnership with the New York Lawyers for Public Interest’s Medical Providers Network. She volunteers with HealthRight International and Physicians for Human Rights where she providers forensic medical examinations for survivors of torture and/or trauma. She co-leads the multidisciplinary Montefiore Immigration Working Group advocating for institutional changes to improve access and quality of care for immigrant patients. Dr. Diaz completed a dual MD/MPH program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she was involved in a student-led campaign to establish Florida’s first legal syringe exchange program. She is committed to fighting for social justice, racial equity, and human rights.
