Dr. Komal Bajaj is an innovator and agency-building healthcare executive based in New York City, catalyzing quality and safety transformation across all facets of healthcare delivery. Dr. Bajaj serves as Chief Quality Officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi/NCB. She is also Clinical Director for NYC Health + Hospitals Simulation Center, which delivers more than 12,000 interprofessional participant encounters throughout its 9 simulation centers annually. She co-chairs the health system’s Monitoring & Evaluation Subcommittee for its Equity & Access Council. Dr. Bajaj is a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, has helped establish a system-wide research council, and co-chairs the system Perinatal Research Sub-Committee. Dr. Bajaj was a member of the inaugural National Academy of Medicine Diagnostic Excellence Scholars cohort. She was recently appointed to the AHRQ National Advisory Council and serves as an American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology COVID-19 Confidence Vaccine Champion.
Dr. Bajaj is an internationally recognized expert on ingraining equity into quality/safety, the impact of diagnostic safety events to maternal mortality, the use of simulation/debriefing to advance healthcare quality/safety, and strategies to integrate healthcare sustainability into a quality and safety agenda. Her work has been featured in media outlets such as the New York Times, Modern Healthcare, NPR, and Crains New York as well as academic entities such as NEJM Catalyst, JAMA Health Forum, and Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
