Tips and Strategies for Teaching on a Busy Inpatient Service

Event Description

This workshop will discuss the skills needed to be an effective clinical coach in the complex environment of an inpatient service, where the complexity and variability of patients requires the attending to teach and provide feedback in real time to a team of learners often at various levels of training. It will explore how to maximize learners performance in the hospital, as opposed to simply increasing their knowledge base. This interactive workshop will reflect on the various barriers to effective coaching and how best to overcome them. This is sure to be a stimulating workshop for faculty with varied levels of teaching experience.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

•Identify the techniques and behaviors associated with exemplary inpatient teachers.

•Understand strategies to adapt your clinical coaching to the time pressures of the inpatient service.

•Reflect on how to incorporate clinical coaching and feedback into everyday practice of the participants specific specialty and learning environment.
