Event Description
Approximately 300,000 individuals in the United States are living with Chagas disease. Few primary care practices in the United States have robust Chagas screening programs to diagnose and treat these patients. During this session, Drs. Koehler and Huanuco will discuss how they developed a successful Chagas disease screening program (Strong Hearts program).
By the end of this session, the attendees will be able to:
•Assess which patients should be screened for Chagas disease.
•Identify clinical conditions that indicate screening for Chagas disease in people from endemic areas.
•Understand current guidelines for Chagas disease screening and confirmatory serology.
•Identify recommended guidelines for patients who are confirmed positive for Chagas disease.
