Lynne Holden, M.D.

Dr. Holden, is professor of emergency medicine at Einstein and an attending physician at Montefiore Health System. She has served as a co-chair of the admissions committee, taught in the Introduction to Clinical Medicine course for first-year medical students, and held the position of associate residency director/site director at Montefiore. As vice-chair for diversity, equity, and inclusion for the department of emergency medicine, Dr. Holden spearheaded programs that expose residents to the social determinants of health in the Bronx and empowers them to create empathetic solutions through research and community service. Since 2006, she has directed the Emergency Department Clinical Exposure and Mentoring Program, which has provided educational and experiential learning through volunteering and shadowing for 1,800 New York City undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students. Dr. Holden is co-founder and president of Mentoring in Medicine, Inc., (MIM), a national non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing students to become healthcare and science professionals in order to help eliminate health disparities.

Faculty Diversity Action Plan Committee

The enhancement of the diversity and inclusivity of Einstein faculty, leadership and students requires a focused effort and action plan. Einstein has established a committee of senior faculty, and graduate students who along with the Dean, will establish a roadmap, suggest initiatives and provide oversight of the recruitment processes for faculty and students underrepresented in medicine and biomedical sciences. This committee would be advisory to the Dean and reports regularly to the Diversity Council.

D&I Groups

Council for Diversity and Inclusion

The purpose of the Council for Diversity and Inclusion is to review and coordinate diversity activities across the College of Medicine continuum and to share best practices as well as lessons learned. The Council is comprised of representatives from the following functional units at the College: medical student admissions, medical student affairs, medical education, graduate medical education, graduate education, postdoctoral affairs, and faculty and staff diversity in addition to membership from other leadership groups representing the Office of Diversity Enhancement, LGBTQ+ affairs, women in academic medicine and school-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives. D&I Subcommittee of the Einstein Senate

The primary mission of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Senate Committee on Diversity Equity and Inclusion is to review the Senate’s policies, processes, and procedures in order to advance diversity at Einstein and an inclusive institutional culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and revise existing Einstein Senate policies, processes, procedures, and practices to ensure they center equity and advance diversity.
  • Make recommendations to the Dean to ensure Senate and related institutional policies and practices facilitate the enhancement of diversity and inclusion at the college.
  • Bring diversity related concerns of students, faculty, and staff to the Senate and recommend to the Senate actions or policies that facilitate equity, restorative justice and/or systemic improvements.

D&I Champions

DEI Department Champions are Faculty and staff who lead diversity and inclusion efforts in their department. This group stays up-to-date with D&I events and activities and shares resources with one another.

Racial Equity and Liberation (REaL) Hub

The Racial Equity and Liberation (REaL) Hub is a group of Einstein and Montefiore faculty & staff, and Bronx community-based organizations who have the shared goal of increasing health equity in the Bronx. This group’s aim is to help Einstein and Montefiore to become a truly community-engaged and responsive health system in alignment with our mission “to heal, to teach, to discover and to advance the health of the communities we serve.”

Einstein Mentor Educators

Einstein’s mentor educators have been selected because of their passion, expertise, and excellent skills in mentoring. They receive facilitator training through CIMER and work as a group to assist with mentor training at Einstein.
