The primary training sites for fellows are the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Services at Moses, Weiler and Wakefield Hospitals and their affiliated clinics.
The inpatient and outpatient experiences are highly academic and interdisciplinary with medical students, residents and fellows. Opportunities for teaching and clinical research are available and the collegial atmosphere of the service allows for substantial mentoring. We make every effort to accommodate each fellow’s particular clinical or research interests.
All training sites are located in the Bronx, with the exception of the Bioethics Seminar, which takes place in Manhattan. Our required rotation sites include:
- Moses Hospital and the Moses Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Department
- Jack D. Weiler Hospital – Einstein Campus
- Wakefield Hospital
- Montefiore Comprehensive Health Care Center, a federally qualified health center
In addition, fellows have the option to pursue formal graduate level training in Bioethics via a year-long off-campus interdisciplinary Bioethics course, which provides graduates with a Certificate in Bioethics as well as credits towards a Master’s Degree in Bioethics.
Fellows also take part in Departmental Quality Improvement activities.
There is no night or weekend call obligation.
Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Pediatric Fellowship Track
Applicants who have completed Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship training may choose this specialized track, spending six to nine months focused on the care of medically ill children and adolescents in both in-patient and out-patient settings in the Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). US News and World Report has named CHAM as one of the nation's best children’s hospitals in the nation. Fellows are supervised by the staff of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Consult Service, who are certified in both Child Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
Case Conferences, Rounds and Seminars
As a fellow, you will participate in the following regular activities:
- Daily bedside rounding with your attending
- Weekly Psychosomatics Case Conference
- Weekly Fellows Seminar
- Weekly individual supervision with program director, Dr. Rubiahna Vaughn
- Weekly Departmental Grand Rounds
- Biweekly Neuropsychiatry Case Conference, co-led by David M. Kaufman, M.D., a renowned neurologist and author of Kaufman’s Clinical Neurology for the Psychiatrist
- Ongoing invitations to various lectures, seminars and conferences
Supervision
Supervision takes place daily, formally in rounds and less formally throughout the day, as the primary attendings are always on site and available. Supervision is an integral part of each of the clinic activities. In addition, fellows meet twice monthly with senior staff to provide more advanced supervision.
