Pocus Pathway

POCUS Pathway

Achieving competency in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) requires introductory training as well as longitudinal feedback in the following areas: image acquisition, image interpretation, and clinical integration. The goal of the POCUS track is to ensure a longitudinal experience for highly motivated residents at Montefiore starting in their PGY-2 year. We cover chest, cardiac, abdominal (including gallbladder and gastric), Renal/GU, and DVT, joint/ soft tissue, and related procedures. The POCUS track starts off with a 2-day external POCUS course in NYC in the fall of second year, which is supported by the program. After securing introductory skills in probe manipulation / POCUS basics at this course, residents will begin building their own image portfolios. The track meets in person or by zoom every 2 weeks with a mix of didactics, guest lectures, image review, and discussion of clinical integration. In-person sessions will focus on image acquisition, including image optimization.
