First Year Fellows

Juliann Allen

Juliann Allen was born and raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica. In 2006, I was awarded the Kofi Anan Scholarship to pursue an undergraduate degree in Chemistry (Biochemistry) at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. During my tenure I not only got involved in campus life, I also got involved in immunology and research. I enjoyed this so much that after graduating I spent 1 year fully immersed in the Immunology lab there. However, my love for medicine could not be denied and I returned home to Jamaica in 2011 to pursue my M.B.B.S. (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree. Wanting to further my studies in Internal Medicine I applied for the Match in 2017, matching at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. After completing my 3 year residency, I was offered the position of PGY 4 Chief resident, which I was excited to accept. Medical education has always been near and dear to my heart and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop my skills as a junior faculty. Throughout my time in residency I rediscovered my love for the immune system and autoimmune disease and applied for the match into Rheumatology. I was excited when I matched here at Montefiore, my top choice. My interests in rheumatology are diverse and I definitely envision a future combining my love for rheumatology and medical education. Outside of the hospital and academic endeavors I enjoy dancing (I take dance classes every week), finding new parks to explore, cooking new recipes I find on Pinterest, and brunching on a rooftop. I am also a support group leader for the Scleroderma foundation in Bergen County.
