Clinical Training

The mission of the Montefiore Einstein Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship Program is to train fellows to master diagnostic and therapeutic challenges that they could encounter in their future careers, and nurture a passion for lifelong learning.

Inpatient Pulmonary Training

Inpatient Pulmonary Training

During three years of training, our Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellows have the opportunity to train at each of our hospital sites to get the full breadth of our diverse New York - particularly the Bronx and Westchester - population. Each site offers different pathologic and socioeconomic demographics that allow trainees to sink their teeth in and build their respective diagnostic and therapeutic styles, as well as to develop relationships with the many mentors available in our training program.

Fellows become proficient in various procedures necessary for pulmonary medicine, such as bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, and various pleural-based interventions.

Clinical Care

Critical Care Training

Our Pulmonary/Critical fellows have a unique training experience in our 'ICU Without Walls' system, where they work with a particularly ill patient population and develop the art of critical care triage on the consult services. Trainees also have the opportunity to head physician teams and direct patient care in the Cardiothoracic, Neurologic, Surgical, and Medical intensive care units; it is here where our fellows have the chance to advance their skills as future teachers and leaders.

Fellows become proficient in critical care procedures, such as intubations/management of difficult airways, central/arterial/dialysis lines, and point-of-care ultrasonography.

Ambulatory Training

Ambulatory Training

Fellows work at one of our three major outpatient facilities for the duration of their three year fellowship. Each site offers a different flavor of outpatient pulmonary medicine, and allows trainees to feel empowered in their independent clinical decision-making and appreciate continuity of care with their patients. Additionally, fellows can spend time in the growing subspecialty clinics offered here at Montefiore, including Pulmonary Hypertension, Sleep Medicine, Asthma, COPD, Bronchiectasis, Thoracic Oncology, and Lung Transplant clinics.
