The Division of Allergy-Immunology is dedicated to:
- Advancing the frontiers of medicine through translational and clinical research and by developing new strategies for the prevention, detection and treatment of allergic and immunologic diseases
- Developing physicians for academic medicine, industry, and private practice
- Caring for patients as a multidisciplinary team of professionals who apply the latest scientific and medical advances with competence, compassion and humility.
With administrative oversight at hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout the Bronx, the Division's full-time attending faculty physicians treat thousands of patients yearly for conditions including asthma, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, urticaria, atopic dermatitis, immune deficiency, aspirin and drug reactions.
Einstein's allergy and immunology faculty specialize in treating hypersensitivity diseases, with targeted research studies in asthma prevention in inner city children, environmental contaminants and allergy promotion, food and non-food ingestants in eosinophilic esophagitis, and the role of allergy in chronic urticaria. Investigators focus on the causes of allergic reaction and immunologic diseases, with an emphasis on cause eradication over symptom management.
