The Montefiore Einstein Center for the Evaluation of Health Programs (CEHP), part of the Department of Family and Social Medicine, provides direct assistance to programs that evaluate interventions intended to serve the economically or medically vulnerable.
Current Initiatives
- Healthy Start, an HRSA-funded initiative seeking to improve the birth outcomes experienced by the women of the Bronx
- Bronx REACH, a CDC-funded initiative run by the Bronx Community Health Network to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health outcomes in diabetes and heart disease in African American and Latino communities in the southwest Bronx
- Incorporating population health concepts into medical education
- Teaching clinical researchers new methodological skills related to patient-centered oriented outcomes
- CEHP works with other departments at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine to help design and evaluate interventions that can range from the community to the clinic.
History
In CEHP’s formative years, almost all of the evaluation and health services research was conducted for small, local clinical interventions. Over time, with funding from CDC, HRSA, NIEH, NIH, Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, the Altman Foundation, and the Samuels Foundation, CEHP has grown to where its staff and Department of Family and Social Medicine researchers recently completed leading a national 5-year, HRSA funded National Evaluation and Technical Assistance Center that evaluated efforts to improve the improve access to, and the quality of care for, HIV+ Women of Color. The major results of this study were published in the January 2015 special supplement of the journal AIDS, Patient Care, and STDS.
