Research

Mission

The Department of Family and Social Medicine strives to improve the health of underserved communities and populations by addressing important clinical, epidemiologic, educational, health services, and health policy questions, and conducting research that understands and responds to urban underserved populations' health and healthcare needs. Our efforts promote collaboration between academic and clinical departments and among community-based health, education, social service, and other institutions to generate new knowledge.

Centers & Networks

Center for the Evaluation of Health Programs (CEHP)
CEHP is leading a nationwide evaluation focused on improving the care of HIV-positive women of color.

New York City Research and Improvement Networking Group (NYC RING)
NYC RING is a practice-based research network (PBRN) with access to research, data, clinical and administrative resources focused exclusively on the urban underserved.

BraveNet
BraveNet is a practice-based research network composed of nineteen integrative medicine clinical sites around the United States that have joined together to help advance integrative medicine by providing clinical outcomes and cost benefit data that has previously not been available to the medical and scientific communities.

 

Research Faculty

Our multidisciplinary faculty works in partnership with each other--as well as with researchers in other divisions and institutions--to seek to improve the quality of care and access to health care for poor urban minority patient populations.

Family and Social Medicine faculty is also involved in teaching Einstein's Master’s in Clinical Research Training Program.
