NYC RING

Welcome! We are the New York City Research and Improvement Networking Group (NYC RING), a practice-based research network (PBRN) supported by the Department of Family and Social Medicine and the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center.

Actively involving primary care practices in all research process phases enhances the relevance and quality of research while significantly improving the translation of results into patient care. By building relationships, sharing resources, and engaging our community, NYC RING aims to provide researchers and practices with the tools they need to effectively investigate clinical questions that will have a real impact on the health of individuals, families, and communities here in the Bronx.

At the core of NYC RING is our mission to advance health equity by supporting the research that is most important and relevant to our community. With a growing network of over 35 partner practices throughout the Bronx and lower Westchester, we envision a future where those who have been historically excluded from academic research are embedded in the process of informing, guiding, leading, and ultimately benefiting from it.

Our Community

Based in the Bronx since 2003, NYC RING continues its mission to advance health equity by supporting the research that is most important and relevant to our community. The Bronx is home to a vastly multicultural and multilingual community with a majority population of Hispanic and Latinx residents. We are among the most diverse counties in the nation, with 60% of residents speaking a language other than English at home, and more than one-third who were born outside of the US. Some of the diverse corners of the globe with a large representation here in the Bronx, and within our Montefiore Einstein patient population, include the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Ghana, Ecuador, Bangladesh, and more.

In a community as exceptionally diverse as ours, the pursuit of improved health and healthcare outcomes goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to address racial and socioeconomic health disparities. Therefore, the work of NYC RING is fueled by the vision that communities who have been historically excluded from academic research will be embedded in the process of informing, guiding, leading, and ultimately benefiting from it. Our growing network includes over 35 partner practices throughout the Bronx and lower Westchester County. These practices are comprised of a diverse spectrum of provider specialties within primary care, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology. Our network practices include federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), faculty practices, and dedicated teaching sites for medical students and residents, with substantial proportions of uninsured or publicly insured patients.
