Applying to the Graduate Division:
It is important that all interested applicants to the Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation apply to the Graduate Division either to the Ph.D. program or the MSTP and indicate on the respective application interest in being considered for the Clinical Investigation track. Candidates should also E-mail Dr. Ellie Schoenbaum (ellie.schoenbaum@einsteinmed.org), Director of the Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation. Potential applicants may also E-mail Dr. Schoenbaum with any questions.
The Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation will be granted through the Graduate School and utilize the structure and by-laws of the Graduate School with the important proviso that the mentor and advisory committee of students on the Clinical Investigation doctoral track will have mentors and advisory committees from among established clinical researchers approved by the Executive Committee of Harold and Muriel Block Institute for Clinical and Translational Research at Einstein and Montefiore. Within the Graduate Division, ICTR represents the clinical research department that defines curriculum and monitors progress for doctoral students in the Clinical Investigation track, analogous to the role of the basic science department which carries out this function for doctoral students who are working with their primary faculty.
Current Einstein Graduate Students:
Current Ph.D. or MSTP students may matriculate into the Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation track from several nodes. First students can indicate their interest in Clinical Investigation as part of their application to the Ph.D. or MSTP program, as above. In addition opportunities exist for current students to explore clinical investigation by doing research rotations with clinical researchers and/or and taking an introductory course in Fundamentals of Epidemiology or a lecture series entitled Clinical Research 101. However, the defining issue denoting affiliation with the Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation track rests essentially with the designation of the primary research mentor on the faculty of Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation and a Ph.D. thesis project that is clearly focused on research involving human subjects.
