Hiring Student Trainees

How to Hire a Student Trainee:
  • Once all the information is completed, it should be routed to Compensation and the Budget Office in the approval path.
  • Once the Budget Office approves the requisition, the position will be posted by Talent Acquisition for the student to apply.
  • If applicable, the Student Trainee will be contacted by the Office of Occupational Health and Safety for medical screening if working in a lab setting or working with animals. Please make sure to indicate that in the iCIMS requisition on the Health and Safety Form.
  • If the student will need training through Environmental Health & Safety, the Department Administrator will need to enroll the Student in relevant training through their office. If the Student Trainee is scheduled to work with animals, The Institute for Animal Studies should also be notified.
  • If Student Trainee is 18 years or older, they will need to consent to a background/drug screening (similar to staff hires)
  • Student Trainees 17 years or younger will be required to provide additional documentation for completion (e.g. working papers) and will not need to consent to a background/drug screening.
  • The Student Trainee will need to complete the final onboarding process, in person, in the HR office on or before Day One of employment.
  • Once cleared the process, they will be able to start employment in your department
